The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.
The Primary Election will have a ballot for the Republican party and the Democratic Party. The federal offices that will appear on each ballot are U.S. Senator and U.S. Rpresentative. The state offices are Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and State Representative. The county offices will be one Supervisor, County Attorney, County Treasurer, and County Recorder.
Candidate filing for the offices of County Recorder, Treasurer, Attorney, Township Trustee, and Township Clerk begins on March 7th, 2022, and ends on Friday, March 25, 2022.
