The Primary Election is an election to determine which candidates will qualify for the General Election for a given party. In Iowa you must be a member of the political party of which you wish to vote for in order to participate. This is known as a "closed primary." The primary election is held on the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in June of each even-numbered year.

Notice: Only three precincts will be open for the Primary Election. Columbus Junction, Southeast Louisa, and Morning Sun Marshall will remain open. All voters who voted at the Masonic Lodge in Columbus City will not vote at the Columbus Junction precinct which will be held in the American Legion building in Columbus Junction. Likewise, voters who voted at the Louisa County Complex will now vote at the Briggs Civic Center in Wapello.
